Something is going on with your child. Read the whole story free first, and only order once you're happy
You read the whole story free on your screen first. Only when you're happy do you order it as a book. No payment up front, no gamble that you'll bring home something that doesn't fit your child.
Maybe a little brother or sister is on the way. Maybe something has happened that you're both still finding words for. Sometimes you just want a lovely story, with no heavy theme at all. Whatever it is, the story is built around your child, with his or her name as the main character.
And you don't need a photo of your child. A name and a few things about who your child is, that's enough to make a story they recognise themselves in.
Below you can walk calmly through the steps, from the first idea to the book that lands on your doormat at home.
From idea to book, step by step
1. Tell us who your child is
You start with your child: the name, the age (4 to 12 years) and whether it's a boy or a girl. Tell us a little more about what your child likes or what makes them special, and the story really becomes about them.
2. Choose how your child looks
Next you choose how your child looks, from a set of pre-drawn faces with different skin tones, hair colours and hair types. That way your child recognises themselves in the illustrations too. Skipping is fine: the story stays the heart of it, the illustrations finish it off.
3. Choose what's going on right now
Now the story itself. You pick the theme that's alive at the moment, for example bullying, a new baby, moving house, grief, or simply a fun story with no theme. You also choose a genre and tell us where it takes place and who's in it: little brother Tim, dog Boris, best friend Sara. That's what makes it a story that belongs to your child, not a name in an existing tale.
4. The story appears on your screen
First you get an overview of your choices, and once you give the go-ahead, we get to work. Moments later the story is there, with your child as the main character. It's written at the reading level that suits the age, so it sounds as though it was dreamt up for exactly this child.
5. Read it calmly, for free
You read the whole story on your screen, as often as you like. If it feels right, you order it. If it doesn't feel quite right yet, you don't order it. You only pay once you're happy.
6. We turn it into a real book
We illustrate the story, with your child recognisable as the main character, and print an A5 hardcover. Every story and every illustration goes through a safety check first, so nothing gets printed without being looked over.
7. The book arrives at home
Count on around 5 working days in the Netherlands and 5 to 7 in Belgium. You can also read and keep the story in your account.
